Jacky Lee’s work is a response to both external and internal reality.
The 'real' subject has to do with an attempt to capture a sequence
or pattern of thoughts, to articulate uncertain feelings and memories;
the marks, possible suggestions of place and atmosphere. These 'places', however exist outside physical experience.
Maggy Milner’s work explores notions of absence and presence, the images hanging between the artifice of staged still life/installation and the inherent realism of photography. Themes of exile, displacement, imprisonment, loss and memory are suggested, though meaning is subverted and not literal.
‘ORCHIDS & TEMPLES’ with Marianne McPhie
A botanical painting holiday on a tropical island
7th -13th & 14th – 20th February 2010 in Sri Lanka
Discover the delights of this beautiful tropical island and paint exquisite orchids that are to be found nowhere else in the world. Sri Lanka is home to more than 170 species of orchids, and a stunning 74 of these are unique to its shores.
Join me this February and spend 6 nights in the tranquil setting of Moonhill, a spacious and elegant beach villa on Sri Lanka’s southern coast, where I’ll be tutoring two orchid painting courses.
This is the perfect holiday for painters and non-painters alike. Swimming from quiet beaches is a short stroll away, and you may have the opportunity to see rare orchids growing in the wild on an excursion to the rainforest, with its extraordinary wealth of birds, animals and flowering plants.
All levels are welcome on the 4-day course as the small group size (max 6) ensures individual tuition and guidance.
Click here to find out more about the course and the optional tours you can combine with your orchid painting holiday.

In June 2009, four of Maggy Milner's photographs from the series Consuming Passions were selected by Troika Editions, an innovative, contemporary photography website.
In September 2009 Maggy Milner's Pink Fish was featured by editor, Ruth Corbett in The Times Saturday Magazine for Troika Editions.
Ruth wrote: "the beautiful depth and quality of these prints is striking"

Troika Editions state on their website that their "ambition is to make collecting photography open to everyone. We love good photography and want to make owning it easy and as straight forward as possible."
"Troika Editions showcases exciting and beautiful work by photographers with a pedigree. These are the next photo stars; they have won awards, published books and had exhibitions. We believe they are artists to watch in the future."
Peter Cartwright - a
retrospective in partnership with
BendInTheRiver
11th July 2009 – 20th September 2009
Derby Museum and Art Gallery
This exhibition celebrates the work of Derby-born artist Peter
Cartwright who has dedicated most of his life to painting and
teaching at the Derby School of Art and at Nottingham Trent
University.
This is a welcome retrospective of Cartwright’s abstract
paintings, drawings and watercolours, as he celebrates his
seventieth birthday this year. The exhibition explores Peter’s
career from the 1960s and is a fascinating insight into what
was influencing and inspiring him in each decade.
Through an unpremeditated response to objects and situations
around him, Peter creates a stock of images which are then
incorporated into his paintings and drawings. His work is an
intense exploration of imagery and abstraction which spans
over five decades.
This exhibition is in partnership with BendInTheRiver in Gainsborough.
In Conversation
Thursday 10th September 2009, 1pm - 2pm. Free of charge.
This is another chance to hear Peter Cartwright talk about
his work. This time he will be in conversation with Hilary
Hammond, Director of Bend in the River gallery. Together they
will explore Peter’s career over the past five decades.
