| DAVID MEASURES Brought up amid a wealth of wildlife on
the banks of the Avon in Warwick his enthusiasm for the natural
world developed at an early age. He went on to study painting
and printmaking at the Slade before lecturing at Nottingham
Trent University. His life has been divided between his enthusiasm
for Art and his deep love of Natural History. He is an acknowledged
expert on butterflies, having published two books on the subject
and contributed to others. He has exhibited throughout Britain,
won the BBC Wildlife Magazine’s major award and has
had a television programme made about him. Fundamental to
all his work are the diaries he has kept since his teens.
He observes, writes and paints in the field. In the Natural
History work he attempts that elusive quality - the life of
the creature. In his landscapes he is free to begin a dialogue
with place, its changes and his medium when chance or inclinations
can prevail.
